Compared to other types of lithium batteries, lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries offer a longer cycle life and do not suffer from memory effect. This is crucial for solar power energy storage systems, as solar PV generators produce inconsistent charging. As a result, residential battery storage owners are not limited to using only half of the stored power, effectively doubling the battery's usable capacity. The battery system can be charged at any time, regardless of the current output from the inverter and PV system.



Unlike lead-acid batteries, LiFePO4 battery storage systems require a Battery Management System (BMS). The BMS smartly controls the battery cells for charging and discharging, managing and monitoring the entire system. It communicates directly with the inverter to ensure the system operates consistently and optimally.
OSM residential battery storage systems include communication functions that instruct the solar controller or inverter when to charge and when to stop discharging. All battery states and information are monitored in real-time. This is crucial when integrating battery systems with solar PV arrays, as the inverters in a solar array system need power to operate, regardless of whether they are connected to the grid.
